Takashima chijimi" has been produced in Takashima City, located northwest of Lake Biwa, since the Tenmei period of the Edo period.
The tradition has been passed down to the present day as chijimi, crepe, and willow fabrics.
The unique texture of the fabric reduces the surface area in contact with the skin, making it a cool and refreshing material with excellent sweat absorbency, suitable for the hot and humid climate of Japan.
With a thickness about the same as sheeting, it can be used for a wide range of applications from clothing to interior decorations.
